Let's Start at the Very Beginning...

_ ACTS — The Alexander Children's Theatre School began as a branch of the International Dance Project (IDP) in the fall of 1999, founded by Stephanie C. Mavrides with Jan Kmiec in loving memory of longtime friend and colleague Stephen Alexander. Prior to Stephen’s untimely death, he and Stephanie ran IDP, a multicultural dance program in Greece that brought together American and Greek dance students. Stephanie jumped at the opportunity to put on a musical production with interested dance students, and with that ACTS was off and running.

What started as a small children’s theatre group has blossomed into a quality community youth theatre. Now, ACTS presents several musicals each year, professionally directed and designed, in addition to offering master classes and workshops with professional artists, weekly dance classes, special summer shows, alumni cabarets, fundraisers, and other educational opportunities.

Our mission and objective is to produce full-scale, quality theatrical productions in the Greater Boston area, performed by students and directed and designed by professionals. We are unique because though nearly all of our shows are non-selective (meaning that we do not make casting cuts), we have attracted some of the finest youth talent in the area. We also combine the work of professional adults with that of student and adult volunteers, so there is something for everyone!

Many current students and alumni have worked with some of the area’s leading professional and regional theatres, and have also gone on to pursue performing arts after high school in some of America’s top colleges and universities - including New York University, Oberlin, Yale University, Ithaca, Wagner College, Brown University, SUNY Purchase, and many more.

ACTS is a proud and active member of the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theatres (EMACT).

We hope you will consider joining us for a future production! Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information!

"A huge hit...If I were you, I’d keep my eye on the Alexander Children’s Theatre for any upcoming productions.
Be sure to go in any kind of weather!"  - Janine de Sousa, TheaterMirror.com

Sincerely,
Stephanie and James
